Well That's That Then

No more Midlands Irish Draught Show. Ever.

It's jinxed for me, without a doubt.

2005 - Can't remember what happened but for some reason I didn't even get to ENTER him.

2006 - The night before the show, my dad got stuck overnight on the motorway. With no food. No water and most importantly, none of his heart drugs. By the morning, my mum was in pieces and we'd been so worried about him all night, I hadn't got T-Jay ready so we didn't go.

2007 - Flash floods on the night before the show and morning of the show. Called to withdraw and they said it'd been moved indoors but by that time it was too late for me to get T-Jay ready.

2008 - We did actually, finally get there. And did reasonably well given that he wasn't himself at all. 48 hours later, he was admitted to horse-pital as he was so ill.

2009 - I THOUGHT, really did think that the jinx had altered slightly. Two weeks before the IDHS show T-Jay stands on both of my feet. I take a week off work as I couldn't drive but also to rest them. The week before the show, I am really careful and still keep resting them because they are still a bit ouchy. On the Thursday before the show (last night) I decided rather than try and hang both me & T-Jay taking his headcollar off as he goes through the gate (long story but it's not the best of gates) that to be careful I will actually walk THROUGH the gate with him and take his headcollar off.

What happens? Gate bounces back at him a fraction, he moves over and................ treads on my foot again *bawls*

It's only one foot so have been able to drive dad's automatic car to work today but it's my left foot. The one that had the worst swelling on. The one that was xrayed as it was possibly broken.

He trod on it at 6pm, it was still bleeding at 10pm but seems to have stopped overnight at some point. It's hugely swollen. All the bruising that didn't come out last week came out immediately last night but it does seem to have gone again now, just swollen and very very sore.

Think my nail will be off :( Hadn't even realised how much of a phobia losing a nail was for me until this last couple of weeks. Was literally shaking last night - partly because toe was so sore and partly from the thought of the nail coming off.

Am so gutted. Mum's made me promise I'm not going to enter the show next year. God only knows what'd happen if I did!!!

On a good note though, am off to Edinburgh for a couple of days. Can't wait!

  1. I can 't believe your bad luck on this, is seriously rubbish and not fair at all. More so because I wanted to cheerlead too :(

I lost a nail on my thumb when I closed it in the door and it was yukky but the thought was far far worse than when it happened. I kept it covered with a soft pad all the time as it can be quite tender but honestly I was freaked out but was ok. My nail grew back a little odd but not noticeable anymore as long as I keep it trimmed well.

I hope you are feeling a but better this evening, where you off to in Edinburgh, I worked there for a bit, is such a fab place

  3. Glad it wasn't so bad Athenrye ... am currently burying head in sand and have toe strapped up - what I can't see won't hurt me LOL

Mand, it's unreal isn't it? :( Am gutted. I don't think it would be so bad if in my heart of hearts I didn't think we'd stand a chance of doing well but I DO. I really honestly DO think if I could just get the bloody horse there and he has his normal sparkle that we'd do well. Not saying we'd go out and win but I think we'd hold our own but sadly it looks not to be :(
